The Way It Didn’t Turn Out

When the Roman pontiff
Stood at the Bethlehem Wall

All he had to do was summon
The courage and compassion

To afflict the comfortable
And comfort the afflicted

And say
“Palestine must be free”

Share the Wealth, with Katie Kilcline, Sunday 1 June

Katie Kilcline did a a sharing with us in fall 2012 about her two years in Nepal with the Jesuit Volunteers.  Since that immersion in a Hindu-Buddhist culture, she has finished a  Master’s in Social Work from Washington University  and has worked at Places for People and the Center for Survivors of Torture and War Trauma.

I was fascinated to learn that she has recently pursued and completed two intense training programs, one at the Psychoanalytic Institute and another with Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. Katie will share with us her aspirations for integrating these two paths of healing and wisdom in her work in St. Louis.

Share the Wealth: Rim to Rim to Rim

This Sunday Mark Cross and  Taggart Long will share their peak experiences from last September doing a run/walk from the South rim of the Grand Canyon to the North rim and then back to the South.  Those two days were an amazing physical/emotional/social/spiritual experience!  Long-distance runners and triathlon devotees are most welcome to add their stories.

So You Went Out on a Date and …

He didn’t ask you to recite one of your favorite poems?
She shakes her head

He didn’t ask you to recite one of your own poems?
“Nope”

Didn’t he Google you, come across your blog?
“Guess not”

He didn’t offer any insight on your spiritual journey?
“Nada”

He didn’t ask which Synoptic Gospel is your favorite?
“Didn’t go there”

He didn’t inquire about your concentric circles of communities?
She chuckles and gives a wave of her hand

He didn’t pick your brain about how best to balance compassion and self-assertion?
“Not at all”

He wasn’t in awe of your ability to start a support group from scratch to benefit scores of people?
“Bless your heart”

So what on earth happened on this date?
“He talked about himself for the three hours”
